There seems to be growing anxiety as not less than fifty (50) aspirants were disqualified in Rivers state for not meeting the basic requirements of the screening exercise as contained in the party’s guidelines adopted for the screening.

The Muraina Ajibola led screening committee shortly after the screening on Sunday submitted its report through the secretary of the screening committee Ishake Yawane and Danjuma Dame- a member screened out Tonye Cole- a prominent politician in the state and fifty five other aspirants vying for the Rivers state assembly positions. They were disqualified for not satisfying the committee on why the party should allow them to proceed into the party primaries scheduled for next week.

Their disqualifications at the screening stage might be unconnected with the party’s constitution and pre-requisites stated in its constitution which borders on membership, responsibilities, disciplinary actions, among others.

With the breaking of this news earlier today, aspirants across the country has been thrown into anxiety over what the outcome of their fate nominations will be as they expect the decision of the party through the screening committee before the end of the week. However, some of the aspirants are optimistic that the screening outcome will determine whether aspirants will receive the party’s nod to be presented with the ticket through consensus or optionally by direct primaries.

As at the time of filing this report, some states are already concluding arrangements of consensus list, while in some areas direct primaries is still being debated. All things being equal, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will unveil its candidates across all positions in few days time.
