THE BITTERS LOVERS
Over the years, the rate at which people consume bitter drinks has risen up tremendously. Almost every day, new products and brands names of bitters storms the market. This is due to high increase in demands of the commodity. Not only because of its usefulness to the consumers, but also for the fact that the products are cheap, somehow effective and affordably available almost everywhere in the country. You can even imagine the rate at which Nigerians in diaspora consumes these bitters as more and more of them are being smuggled out of the country on daily basis. Naija bitters are now found in shops across Europe, Asia and the rest of the world. Perhaps, we have to clarify that not only naija in abroad consumes it…their friends over there also enjoy the taste.
Bitters are packaged drinks claimed to be efficient for aphrodisiac, toxic flusher, weight loss, menstrual pain cure, and anything you just think it works for. Producers of bitters will advertise these on the labels and you can easily know what exactly you want to consume and for the purpose you are buying it. No wonder, bitters cannot be easily sent out of the system even when studies have established that some if not all of them are dangerous to human health. Who will listen to a message against his satisfaction? Just nobody!!!
Let me know explain what the parable of the bitters means to the readers of this article. Well, it is about the society we find ourselves. It is about our sporadic passion for creating more toxic instead of eliminating the existing ones. It is about nursing envy, greed, hatred, inhumanity, assaults, intimidation, blackmail, perjury, character assassination as if these were normal norms. The outrageously growing societies of embittered minded people continue to grow viable wings. And, nobody even want to talk about the implications.
It is so unfortunate that those who could not achieve something will see pulling down achievers of such feats. it has become so easy to gather enemies than picking up friends. It has become more of traditions, to openly assault and condemns people who strive to mold the society, while some people are either nowhere to be found or waiting to destroy the legacies. It is pathetic that those who are supposed to be architect of a changed society are the ones destroying it. It is so easy to gather crowds of violence than to mobilize for peace. Unfortunately, this is the place we found ourselves. Yet, we need to ask ourselves how do we get here? What can be done to alter the odd phenomenon?
Simple….we got here because the society has failed to observe its decaying frames. We no longer have interest in builders but in people who will eventually end up drawing down the curtain after a dark cast. Greed and envy has killed the potentials of passionate makers of the society, because they have been poisoned by corrupt tools around them. Look around you will see more “dirt” on the hands that preaches sainthood. You will see people selling their people overnight. You will see greed from which so many people’s regalia were made. You can never predict how disappointingly worsened the thinking faculties of people had suddenly turned to, just because their hearts is filled with evil, even against themselves.
I was talking to an elderly person few weeks ago on how he think the 2027 general election will look like. The man in his 80’s promptly responded “ just collect money and cook”. Don’t even bother to go out and vote. This is the most saddened reality of a failed society!!! This is the reality to conclude that it is not only the tagged lazy youths that massacred the sanity of our society. The elders have destroyed more than they can heal even until they die. They have planted the bitter impressions in the minds of even the innocently unborn children. They have jilted so many dreams of moving away from evils and appreciating the truth. They have allowed their re-surging hatred for their old foes to transit into generations likely unborn. They have misled the trying ones to forcefully accept the fate that virtually nothing is possible. In politics, community matters, educational issues, even family affairs; we have been deeply enmeshed in a quagmire of being easily blindfolded by falsehood and high degrees of criminality, all in the name of envy, hatred, supersaturated ego, and our uncontrolled dire for quick wealth.
Behold, there are over a thousand of young people taking hard drugs on daily basis. We all know their sources, families and relatives. We all know who the breeders of these young drug addicts are. We know how desperate politicians are using them to cause pandemonium before and after electoral activities. We all know how they were being nourished and harbored by the destroyers of our society. Yet, we keep silent as if nothing is hazardously wrong!!!
Well, as years goes by, let us put this at the back of our minds that we cannot defend bearing the consequences if we fail to speak out now. We cannot have a better society if you cannot do something yet you think destroying the doers will earn you a badge of honor. We cannot continue seeking a better society as long as justice is being murdered behind the bar. We cannot move on if our innocent girls are being raped and nobody stand to fight justice for them. We cannot have a working society if hotels and entertainment joints are not cooperating with the families to get rid of delinquencies, just because they are making big money from the ills of our society. We cannot continue searching for glories, when owners of evil chambers are being crowned with status meant for the just. We will always get things wrong as long as we see nothing wrong in pulling people down to get up. Pathetically, that sounds like the easiest way to get up now. What an irony!!!
