Dramatic event has continued trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC), as some of its aspirants have been issued with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms.
Accroding to findings by our correspondence in Ibadan, some of the state assemblies and House of Representatives aspirants in some parts of Ondo, Kwara, Nassarawa and Adamawa states have received their multiple forms. While some claimed to have obtained theirs from the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, others were said to have got the forms through their respective state governors, who we learned has been empowered by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to issue and return the forms earlier next week.
It was also gathered that some parts of Oyo state were also involved in this dramatic event, which some analysts believe could brew crisis for the party.
Reliable sources also confrimed that a former minister has been given gubernatorial nomination forms against an earlier acclaimed consensus candidate of the party, with the hope that the latter will eventually be adopted by the INEC in the last minute. Relying on this development, loyalists of the former minister has been assured not to leave the party as they await the official announcement of his name as the approved candidate of the party.
While some believe the process of selecting and affirming the candidates of any political party is its sole business. There has been major concerns as to whether the amended Electoral Act 2026 actually vested the powers to determine the candidates without the electoral body inference will be accepted by law.
Pending the disclaimer of this development, there is likelihood of complicated pre-election matters to be addressed in court as parties wait for the official closure of candidates uploading on INEC portal through the issued codes, and the publication of the names on the apex electoral body’s portal.
