Despite the earlier decision of a political camp of the Allied Peoples Movement in Ibarapa North known as G-7 for the endorsement of Bisi Akande, the same party through what seems like a parallel primary election had picked Hon. Peter Gbadegesin Ojedokun as candidate of the APM in December’s local government election.
A top source within the party, disclosed to us that Ojedokun’s name has been written on the party’s final list of chairmanship candidates submitted to the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) yesterday.
The development comes just days after seven of the 10 statutory stakeholders (G10) of the APM in Ibarapa North Local Government endorsed the incumbent Vice Chairman of Ibarapa North local government , Hon. Bisi Akande, as their preferred candidate for the party’s chairmanship ticket.
Some online news had earlier reported that the local government party chairman, Mr. Mathew Olayiwola Ojoogun initially backed Ojedokun as his preferred candidate, in contrast to the endorsement of Akande by the seven stakeholders.
We also found out that the party chairman had dismissed Akande’s endorsement, which he described as stage-managed, insisting that it did not reflect the party’s official position on the choice of its chairmanship candidate.
Sources said efforts by party stakeholders to resolve the disagreement during a meeting in Ibadan on Monday, August 3, 2026, failed, prompting the state leadership to suspend the announcement of the party’s candidate until further consultations.
However, reliable sources within the party confirmed that Ojedokun’s name has now been submitted on the final list of chairmanship candidates reportedly approved by the state leadership.
