REDEFINING THE ESSENCE OF GOVERNANCE IN IBARAPALAND.
I have come across various occasions where people seems not knowing what exactly they are looking for in a system. I have heard people saying they are better fine with someone who put food on their table than preaching good road, free and sound education, improved health standard and the likes. I have seen people who admire eating from the crucibles of their oppressors rather than looking for a savior not likely to be seen. All these are scenario of what happens mostly in our modern day political terrain- an instance that calls for deep sober reflections.
Distances away from election period, there are arguments on how the society suffers from various forms of issues like inflation, joblessness, hunger, kidnapping, flooding, drought, communal clashes, banditry and all forms of social vises. The voices always roar virtually everywhere that even those who the society thinks could rescue them eventually becomes part of the groaning. Then, we come to the fact that “indeed the rich also cry”. However, is that all we can render to redeem the situation or we find the appropriate tools within our domain to make the change we truly desire? Then, we have to show the true picture of what exactly do we want, so we might not continue living in the dark side of our own self-created detriments.
Few years back, our communities was incautiously lured into swallowing the pills of hatred against ourselves, by allowing our common dreams to be diverted towards the path of a visionless dimension. Even though we have our differences and interests we find so paramount to protect, yet we have suddenly forgotten that the change we desires to bring into our folds will not only come but in a dynamic way. We turned to and embraced the culture of bargaining the future instead of securing and mortgaging the assets we inherited during the years we labored to bring our communities into good shape. Suddenly, the elites gets more interests in who take them to beer parlors after a long stressful day, instead of revisiting the drawing board and check on the next line to tour. Community people no longer pursue dreams but chases survival, out of the dilemma which they brought onto themselves. The most pathetic is that we blindly allow politicians to place their greed, envy and selfish aspirations above our collective yearnings, sending us away from what could have meant a turnaround phenomenal for us.
I took a survey around our towns and I asked myself, what exactly is wrong with our communities? I glanced through the green walls of our villages and behold the promising fertile land which has been jettisoned by distractions sometimes around politics. I looked around market women waiting for the next dancing spree where politicians will come with moneybags. I examined the public infrastructures- schools, health centers, roads, and the rest and I found out that we are still not the worst we have been misconstrued to be. I can see vivid landmarks and symbols of a moving but less in neither velocity nor speed. I can see that the system has been working even though not up to what we might have been logging for. Perhaps, the puzzle we ought to have settled instead of allowing political tussles to override and shamble our yearnings is how can we get the better of what we have been through? Are the community and political instruments we relies on working effectively to transmit and transform our communities onto the next level? Have we actually got anything wrong at any point in time? What exactly is the way forward?
Well, the answer(s) to these multiple puzzles lies on a single line of action. And the simple response is that all we need is an act of sustainability. We need an insight into how the resources we have got in shapes could multiply, bosom and pass the tests for sustenance and continuity. We need humanity impressions that will sharpen our political orientation towards centralizing our yearnings on a lone framework. We need mentalities that will rebuild, strengthen and trigger formidable development instead of allowing screes of desperation, and infatuation to overshadow our quest for genuine development; irrespective of who leads our community and political struggles. Nevertheless, we do not clamor for personalities with faint antecedents and invisible landmarks. We should look inwardly into who will lead the struggle for sustainable development and versatile leadership, devoid of gullibility.
As 2027 (being another election year approaches), we desires genuine leaders who will not manifest gullible atmosphere above realities. We want people with bold, fervent, volatile, fluent, vibrant and promising antecedents to represent our state and federal constituencies. We do not want ceremonial leaders, who will throw parties as achievements while core developmental projects are bargained and sold off. We do not deserve and desire “merry-go –rounding” leaders who relies on flamboyant lifestyles by acquiring expensive cars and investing abroad. We want leaders who will bring investors into our towns. We want leaders who will work tirelessly to deliver and develop human capacities, with a vast multiplier effects. We don’t want bench warmers, who will rather take us back to days of rage. We want genuine, feasible, highly-productive, lucrative and long lasting development, which even yet unborn generation will behold and appreciate.
We hope to see political parties’ candidates with sound credentials, competence and credible potentials on the ballot in 2027. We can no longer gamble with sympathy votes when assurance of something tangible is not guaranteed from candidates with lack of virtues capable of taking our dear constituency to the next level.
Lastly, we want our dear constituents to prepare to vote for candidates who will directly connect our constituency to the presidency. This is the only way we can achieve sustainable power project, effective educational support, health care system, good road, security, and economic development programs. We should not repeat the mistake of 2023 where our votes set us in opposition to the federal presence. Let us keep the hope alive that we can successfully bring in these developments in an atmosphere where people choose to play politics in lines with common interests of the sovereign communities and not individuals interests which often portray us as gullible in the eyes of politicians who takes us for granted.
