Uncertainty deepens over parties candidates archived by INEC

There has been growing anxiety and uncertainty over the submission of party candidates for the 2027 general election in Nigeria.

According to our correspondent who spoke with an insider in the apex electoral body in Nigeria- Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), it was gathered that some federal, senatorial and state constituencies submitted more than one names of candidate for a single position, by submitting multiple Nomination forms to INEC.

One of such was attributed to the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC), where contradictions occurred between the names earlier sent to INEC by the party, and the new names suggested to have been changed by state executives of the APC.

It was rumored that the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the APC is doing everything possible to avoid cutting itself in the ankle by not allowing some bad elements within the party to invoke no candidacy nemesis on the party in some states, as election draw nearer.

Pending the last minute change, INEC is expected to publish names of parties candidates by first week in August or thereabout, in compliance with the Electoral Act and guidelines for the conduct of the 2027 general election as released by INEC.
